簡要記述(中):物理所林新的理論團隊與合作夥伴結合第一級原理電子能帶結構計算與理論分析,發現非磁性的上千種手性晶體,只要引入電子自旋軌道耦合,就普遍存在外爾費米子在倒晶格的時間反演不變點上。非磁性的手性晶體有時間反演對稱性,按克拉莫定理,帶有自旋的電子能態在時間反演不變點上是簡併態,進一步理論分析發現簡併態附近的準粒子遵守外爾方程式,這種新的外爾費米子命名為克拉莫-外爾費米子。此成果已發表於《自然材料》期刊Nature Materials 17, 978, (2018),並獲該期刊news & views所報導(doi: 10.1038/s41563-018-0210-6)。
簡要記述(英):Combining the first-principles electronic band structures calculations and topological band theory, Dr. Hsin Lin of Institute of Physics and his collaborators found the nonmagnetic chiral crystals generally host Weyl fermions on the time-reversal-invariant points in the reciprocal lattice when the spin-orbit coupling is present. Since Nonmagnetic chiral crystals preserve the time-reversal symmetry, according to Kramers theorem, the spin up and down electronic states have to be degenerate on the time-reversal-invariant points. The quasiparticles around the degeneracy obey Weyl equations, and these new type of fermions are termed Kramers-Weyl fermions. This work has been published in Nature Materials 17, 978, (2018).
