I have long associate approx. 18 years, with Academia Sinica specially with Institute of Physics. Initially I was stationed at AS for long time as postdoctoral fellow and I got faculty position at Banaras Hindu University in the year 2005. Since then on and off almost every year I visit AS. I have joint research collaboration with IoP and good number of Indian students are always stationed. Academically AS provides excellent working environment, friendly behavior, and healthy discussion, as results excellent research out comes.
People of IoP are very friendly, full of cooperation and very understandable.
I always feel Taiwan as my second HOME and I love a lot.

Happy 90th anniversary!
ASIoP was the former physics group of the Institute of Physics and Chemistry Industry and Commerce Shanghai in November 1927 . It was reorganized and belonged to Academia Sinica in March 1928; later the same year on June 9th was formally founded as the Institute of Physics, located at No. 899, Xiafei Road, Shanghai. It is one of the oldest research institutes of Academia Sinica.
The Science and Engineering Laboratory, Shanghai was financially supported by the Board of China Education and Culture Fund In 1933. ASIoP relocated to the new address which was constructed for the Institute of Physics, Chemistry, and Engineering (located on Baili South Road, Shanghai).
During the Japanese War in 1937, ASIoP displaced from Shanghai to Kunming, Guilin then to Sichuan Beibei; a lot of books and instruments were lost. After the victory of the Anti-Japanese War, ASIoP returned to Shanghai then moved in with institute of mathematics, chemistry, animals, plants, psychology, and medicine to the Institute of Natural Science Shanghai in 1946.
In 1946, Academia Sinica purchased more than 200 acres of land in Jiuhua Mountain, Nanjing, then founded “Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry Research Center”. In 1948, ASIoP moved to the new building that was completed. Not long after, the situation between Beijing and Shanghai went tensed-up, ASIoP did not complete the relocating action to Taiwan in time.
Fall 1948, only the Institute of History and Philology and the Institute of Mathematics could follow when Academia Sinica moved to Taiwan with the government. The researchers and equipment of the Institute of Physics remained in the mainland. 1957, President Hu Shi invited Wu Da-You to set up Institute of Physics in May 1962, Wang Shi-Jie was appointed as the president of Academic Sinica. He suggested enabling the Institute of Physics. At the end of the year, Wu Da-You was appointed as the first director.
Since 1966, MOST (Former National Science Council) has established five scientific research centers in mathematics, physics, chemistry, biology, and engineering science. ASIoP Co-organizes the Research Center of Physics with National Taiwan University and National Tsinghua University to jointly promote the development of Natural Science.
In the beginning, ASIoP shared a two-floored building with Institute of Mathematics in Nangang. Concerning the space extending requirements, the original site was rebuilt into a 1,500 pings, four-floored and one-basement attached building. After the completion of the first phase of the project, the old building was demolished, and the staff of the office moved into the new building; and then continued the second phase to finish the construction.
ASIoP is committed to pioneering physics research, participating in large-scale research projects, establishing academic standards, hiring talents, enriching research equipment, improving the academic research environment, and making our software and hardware equipment better completed. In order to meet the rapid expansion of our academic research activities, the second ten-floored building was built in August 1998. The new building was completed in the summer of 1999 and was named "Da-You Pavilion", to commemorate the former director of ASIoP, Mr. Wu Da-You.
March 5, 2001, Wu Da-You Memorial Hall was completed on the fourth floor of Institute of Physics. In addition to showing the scene of President Wu Da-You's life, the furniture and decorating of his office and former residence were fully presented in the memorial hall for people to visit. There are also many photos of his life, teaching handwritten manuscripts, precious historical relics, and published books.
In 2002, ASIoP re-integrated into three groups, formally divided into NanoScience Group, Complex System Group and Medium and High Energy Physics Group, which to complete the research scope, to allocate of research funds, and to superior the academic cooperation among researchers. In 2015, to meet the progress of advanced Physics sciences and complying with the future development, the three research groups were renamed: Quantum Material Physics Group (former NanoScience Group), the Middle and High Energy Physics Group, and the Biological and Dynamic System Group (former Complex System Group).
Since 2002, academic advisory committee meetings have been held every 1-2 years to examine the research direction of ASIoP and to enhance the budgeting administrative function. (Photo was taken in August 2017)
The idea of AsIoP’s logo was born on April 15, 2003, by Dr. Chia-Sheng Chang. The letters I.O.P are drawn with the additive primary colors blue, green, and red, and they are placed in such a way that one can depict G，c，h，k, the 4 fundamental constants which represent classical mechanics, electromagnetism, quantum mechanics, and statistical mechanics. With further imagination, one can conceive the number 1928 from the design, which is the year the IOP was founded.
Under the auspices of Institute of Physics, Academia Sinica and Shui-Chin Lee Foundation for Basic Science, ASIOP & Shui-Chin Lee Physics Lecture Series were launched. Every1-2 years, the greatest of international outstanding researchers will be invited for the lecture to promote the advanced Physics sciences. This will lead to new creative ideas for researches and cultivate young talents for Taiwan physics research environment.
