Statistics and complex system

For the last 20 years, we have been working on problems in complex systems. They cover topics in biology, geology, social science and finance. We study and understand the underlying mechanisms of the dynamics of complex systems, in the area of social science, economics and finance and in the area of biology related, which more specifically is brain neuroscience.

We collaborate with colleagues in China and Hong Kong on cryptocurrencies and COVID-19. We work on building models from the data and use the models to make predictions and recommendations.

We develop a model to reconstruct gene regulatory networks. Since IoP researchers have been working on brain imaging and have been collecting vast amount of data, we build models based on the data and the techniques we developed. The important question is to understand how the brain works.

In these research works, we use methods from complex network theory, information theory as well as methods from physics to study the dynamical behavior in these systems. Of particular interest is the causal relationships in these systems.
