Title
Novel Materials for Devices in Quantum Sensing
Speaker

Abstract:
The talk focuses on novel devices with applications in quantum sensing. We develop single particle detectors using novel materials and properties. One area of focus is avalanche style detectors using single molecule magnets (SMM)s. These detectors are meant for low event detection (such as in the search for Dark Matter), are tunable down to eV thresholds, and feature low dark count rates (at the cost of energy resolution). Alternatively, we take advantage of the Meissner effect to create a microcalorimeter. These devices are easily to multiplex, and have great tunability as the readout is decoupled from the energy absorber. While eV level detection is possible, we focus on keV-meV energy scales for nuclear applications.
