Abstract

Two-dimensional (2D) van der Waals (vdW) materials, such as graphene, hexagonal boron nitride (h-BN) and transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDs), exhibit a rich variety of properties that can be further tailored to achieve novel functionalities by strain engineering and light-matter interaction. In this talk I will describe a new paradigm of quantum straintronics for controlling the 2D electronic correlation and bandstructures via nanoscale strain engineering of single layer (SL) graphene, [1,2] and a new strategy to design novel topological photonics and optoelectronics via interactions of topological charges from optical and/or plasmonic vortices with different 2D-vdW materials.
