Mr. Stalin Karuppiah (Institute of Physics, Academia Sinica)

Abstract

The Sustainable development goals (SDGs) by United nations (UN) declared their agenda to achieve 17 important goals by 2030, where goal 3 is specifically focuses on “Ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all at all ages”, which includes the eradication of diseases caused by water-borne pathogens by assuring the quality of the water and affordable diagnostics for emerging diseases. The analysis of biological fluids is essential for scrutinizing the health of populations, however, it is challenging to create a system which provides good health care among low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) as these measurements are often having obstacles to implement in rural zones due the poor industrial estates, lack of healthcare aids. Although conventional biodiagnostic instruments provide qualitative results of biological fluids, they are incompatible for these scenario as they occupy large space, cost, need of trained personnel, and notable volumes of biological samples. To address these problems, we need to generate a definite research system and protocols that yields sustainable solution. Here, we reported the fabrication of a sustainable bioanalytical device and demonstrate their applications to detect the water contamination, oral cancer and SARS-CoV-2.
