Abstract

Observations of high-redshift quasars indicate that super massive black holes (SMBHs) with a mass of about one billion solar masses exist at high redshifts z >= 6 − 7, when the universe was 6% of its current age. The origin of these SMBHs is not well known. We propose a mechanism, based on the idea of gravothermal collapse of self-interacting dark matter (SIDM) halos, to produce heavy seed black holes in the early universe.
