Title

The impact of heavy-flavor neutrinos on the neutrino r-process

Abstract

Neutrino-induced reactions play an essential role in nucleosynthesis in neutron-rich environments; however, the impact of heavy-flavor neutrinos (mu and tau type neutrinos) on nucleosynthesis path through neutral-current reactions at high average neutrino energies remains unclear. In this work, we investigate the sensitivity of the $\nu$r-process to the energy and flux of heavy-flavor neutrinos. We find that when the average energy of heavy-flavor neutrinos exceeds approximately 40 MeV, neutral-current–induced reactions involving $\alpha$ particles drive the system out of quasi-statistical equilibrium, shifting the nuclear abundance distribution toward heavier nuclei. As a result, we observe two distinct nucleosynthesis patterns depending on the average neutrino energy: one corresponding to charged-current–driven production of p-nuclei, consistent with previous studies, and the other exhibiting an r-process–dominated pattern.
