Title

Fifty years quark-gluon plasma - past present and future

Speaker

James B. Duke Professor Berndt Mueller (Department of Physics, Duke University, USA)

Abstract

In my colloquium I will trace the historical motivation and the success of the search strategy for the quark-gluon plasma that guided the research program of the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC), the first billion-dollar scale facility primarily dedicated to nuclear research, and more recently the Large hadron Collider. I will highlight the expected and unsuspected accomplishments of the program. In the final part of my lecture I will give an outlook on the research program for the next large nuclear physics facility, the Electron-Ion Collider, which is expected to start operations in the next decade.
