Title
Effective Field Theory in Quantum Matter: From Fermi Liquids to Quantum Hall Physics
Speaker
杜怡嫺博士 (MIT, USA) Dr. Yi-Hsien Du (MIT, USA)Abstract
Abstract: Fermi liquid theory is a cornerstone of condensed matter physics. I will present a geometric formulation of Fermi liquid theory as an effective field theory in which low-energy states correspond to collective deformations of the Fermi surface, naturally organized by canonical transformations in phase space. This yields a nonlinear bosonized description that captures both linear and nonlinear response, and naturally incorporates Berry-curvature effects. I will also discuss how this framework provides a route toward non-Fermi-liquid behavior via relevant deformations of a Fermi liquid fixed point. I will then connect this phase-space viewpoint to incompressible quantum Hall fluids, where area-preserving deformations control the collective dynamics, and outline a phase-space hydrodynamic framework for quantum Hall theories, including quantum corrections and extensions to non-Abelian states.
