Title

Topological phase and the non-Hermitian skin effect: Multiple perspectives

Abstract

Recently, the concepts of topological phases have been extended to non-Hermitian Hamiltonians, whose eigenvalues can be complex. Non-Hermiticity can cause a boundary phenomenon called the non-Hermitian skin effect, which competes with the Hermitian topological boundary phenomenon. Actually, non-Hermiticity itself has topological aspects. In this talk, I will first introduce two interpretations of the relationship between the skin effect and topological phases. Then, I will explain recent research discussing the implementation of the skin effect in quantum systems.
