KAGRA Gravitational Wave Observatory Successfully Operating at 20 Kelvin

KAGRA Gravitational Wave Observatory demonstrated the first underground km-scale interferometer operating at the cryogenic temperature of 20 Kelvin. It will play an important role in the world-wide Gravitational Wave network which will start the fourth observing run (O4) in 2022. This milestone advance was published as “T. Akutsu et al 2019 Class. Quantum Grav. 36 165008” and selected as one of twelve highlight papers in CQG in 2019-20.

The KAGRA Collaboration consists mainly of research institutes from Asia, within which the Institute of Physics, Academia Sinica, is a core member. ASIoP Research Fellow Sadakazu Haino was one of the corresponding authors of this article.
