International collaboration team reveals spin chain directions in an antiferromagnet

Post Date:2023-03-27

Under the support of Taiwan-US collaborative project of NSTC, the collaboration team of our institute (Dr. Shang-Fan Lee, Dr. Raman Sankar, Dr. Kung-Hsuan Lin et al.) and the University of Texas at Austin (Prof. Xiaoqin Li et al.) investigated the relation between the magnetic and optical properties in a van der Waals antiferromagnet NiPS3.  This study shows that anisotropic exciton photoluminescence can be used to read out local spin chain directions in antiferromagnets, and reveals three possible spin chain directions.  The discovery establishes a new understanding of the antiferromagnet order hidden in previous neutron scattering and optical experiments.
