Giant second harmonic generation from ferroelectric SnSe
Kung-Hsuan Lin’s group at our institute, in collaboration with the groups at Massachusetts Institute of Technology, National Taiwan University, Research Center of Applied Sciences Academia Sinica, and Tamkang University reported that few-layer SnSe with ferroelectric stacking exhibits second harmonic generation (SHG) efficiencies up to three orders of magnitude higher than conventional nonlinear crystals. The SHG response is highly anisotropic and strongly dependent on the excitation wavelength. This work is highlighted as the back cover of Advanced Photonics Research (Oct. 2025).
