Lab Rotation

Purpose
Lab rotations are designed to help first-year students explore and understand their research interests before selecting a thesis advisor.

Selecting Labs

  • Students may review faculty profiles on the program website to identify potential labs.

  • Some faculty may request that students contact them directly before accepting a rotation.

Rotation Duration

  • Students may rotate through 2–3 labs during one academic year.

  • The length of each rotation is determined by mutual agreement between the student and the lab advisor but may not exceed three months.

Required Submissions

  1. At the start of the rotation

    • Submit the P.I./Lab Rotation Notice form with the rotation advisor’s signature to the NST Office.

  2. At the end of the rotation

    • Submit the Student Progress Report – Lab Rotation form.
      Student Progress Report-Lab Rotation (completed by student)

    • Include comments on your future research plan.

    • Obtain the signature of Dr. Yu-Chieh Wen (ycwen@phys.sinica.edu.tw) before submission.

Additional Requirements

  • Submit all forms in hard copy to the NST Office.

  • Arrange your mid-term interview with Dr. Wen concurrently with your form submission.

Deadlines

  • If your thesis advisor has not yet been confirmed, you must submit your lab rotation documents and complete the mid-term interview with Dr. Wen by:
    • November 30 for the Fall semester

    • April 30 for the Spring semester
