Solid-state Physics (I)

Credits: 3

Lecturer: Lee, Chih-Hao 李志浩教

Classroom: P101 Meeting Room, IoP, AS

Class hour: Every Thursday, 14:10-17:00

Object:

The object of this course is to provide an understanding on the physical properties, such as magnetism, electronics, thermodyanmics, to relate with electronics and atomic structure of a condensed matters.
In this course, we will review the " introduction of solid state physics" within one month depending on the background of students. During this review, additional information will be added especially on the material of how to do the experiment to get the properties of solid state materials. We will not go through all those complicated theory calculations. For the last month, depending on the student's thesis requirement, a few selective subjects will be delivered in more details. Some of interesting modern subjects, such as GMR, TMR, diluted magnetic semiconductor, light emitting diode, order and disorder of the solid materials will be mentioned.

Text Book:

Introductionto Solid State Physics, Editor by Charles Kittel, the 7th edition.

Teaching Method:

Lecture in classroom

Syllabus

For the first three months:
From Chap 2 to Chap 16 (kittel textbook), four chapters per week. For last 6
