研究興趣

表面物理及化學、原子操縱術、低維量子效應、奈米結構科學、掃描探針式顯微術之發展。探討金屬及半導體晶體表面的物理性質、原子在其表面上的運動機制、和操控表面原子的方法。晶體表面的物理性質主要包括:表面原子的組成及排列、表面電子的分佈及特性;表面原子的運動機制包括:原子在平台上的擴散、原子在台階邊的行為;操控表面原子的方法包括:利用強電場或原子力來操控。

我們的主要研究儀器為掃描穿隧顯微鏡(STM)。它除了具有原子的分辨率,能提供區域性表面原子的排列及電子的分佈外,也能用來操控表面原子。傳統的表面分析設備如低能電子繞射儀(LEED)及歐傑電子能譜儀(AES),則用來決定晶體表面的長程結構和元素成份。

由於電子元件愈做愈小,對其中微小結構的物理性質的了解十分重要。我們的研究目的即在從瞭解晶體表面的物理性質出發,嘗試製作極微小的結構,同時研究它們的各種物性。
