GENERAL INFORMATION

CLIMATE

Tainan City is located in the South West of Taiwan, and Tainan can be categorized as a flat plain of tropical climate with an average temperature of 23.8゚C. The annual highest temperature is from June to August, and can be higher than 28゚C. The warmest month is July with an average temperature of 29゚C (with a temperature difference of 10 plus degree). Due to the effects from monsoon and landform, Tainan has distinct dry and rainy seasons. The rainfall concentrating in summer of average annual rainfall is approximately 1,570mm.

INSURANCE

Delegates are encouraged to purchase travel insurance before leaving their home country. Insurance plans typically cover accidental loss of belongings, medical costs in case of injury or illness, and other possible risk of international travel.

 

CURRENCY EXAHANGE

Only New Taiwan Dollar (NTD) is acceptable at most stores and restaurants. Certain foreign currencies may be accepted at a limited number of hotels. You can buy NTD at foreign currency exchange counters, banks, and other authorized money exchangers on presentation of your passport. Banks are open from Monday to Friday 09:00-15:30.

 

TRAVELER’S CHECKS AND CREDIT CARDS

Traveler’s checks are accepted only by leading banks and major hotels in principal cities, and the use of traveler’s check in Taiwan is not as popular as in some other countries. VISA and MasterCard are widely accepted at hotels, department stores, shops, and restaurants. The acceptance of American Express and other types of credit cards is limited.

 

TIPPING

In Taiwan, tips are not necessary, even at hotels and restaurants.

 

ELECTRICITY

Electric current is 110Volts, 60 Hz in Taiwan. Few hotels in major cities have two outlets of 110 and 220 Volts. The plugs are usually 2- thin- leg type. Flexible adaptors are usually available at the hotel counters.

 

SHOPPING

Department stores, shops, and restaurants in Taiwan are generally open on Saturday, Sunday and national holidays as well as weekdays.
