Since the fortuitous discovery by Otto Stern and Walther Gerlach in 1922, electron spin has dominated many branches of physics especially spintronics. In addition to the juicy historical accounts, we will describe some of the latest renditions in spintronics of pure spin current phenomena and spin orbit torque.
