Abstract

The later stage of gravitational wave emissions from black hole collisions is characterized by the quasinormal modes. Using the Schwarzschild black hole spacetime as an example, we describe why this is so through the Green’s function analysis. We would also mention some of the methods of evaluating the complex frequencies of these modes. As astrophysical black holes usually have angular momenta, the above considerations are then extended to the cases of rotating Kerr black holes.
