Information for New Students

Notarizing your highest degree

Different countries have different procedures. It is suggested that you contact our officer in charge of visa and documents certification and prepare all the necessary papers before you go to their offices for visa application and diploma certification.

Buying four-month insurance policy

Students who get Taiwan ARC for 4 months are eligible to enroll in Taiwan's National Health Insurance Program (NHI). Before enrolling in NHI, students need to buy their own insurance policy in case any emergency happens.

Health examination for the registration

All students have to have their health examination for the registration.
¡° For NTHU students, the health examination will be done in the campus on the registration day (September 12);
¡° For NTU students, you need to complete it before the registration (September 4).

Thus, if you are planning to have your examination in your country, be sure that the examining items include the ones that each university requires ( NTU form; NTHU form). It is suggested that you use the form when having the examination.
If you want to do it in Taiwan, NTU students had better arrive in Taiwan earlier because the examination results will take 5 to 7 days. Please consider this before you book your airplane.

Airport pick-up

If you need airport pick-up service, please inform me your arriving date and time, airline and flight number, and destination (such TIGP Dorm or other place): if this place is other than TIGP Dorm, please offer the detailed address. The fare is about NTD1100-1200, which you pay after you get your first month's stipend.

Expenses

The stipend does not cover the airfare. You need to prepare necessary expenses, including tuition fee and life expense (and dorm fee), before you receive the first month stipend (about first week of October).

Estimation:

Tuition: about NT$32,000
Dorm: NT$5,500 * 2 months + one month deposit = NT$16,500
Living expenses: about NT$8,000 ~ 10,000 (it depends on you) * 2 months = NT$16,000~20,000
ARC: NT$1,000/year

The total is around US$2,150 or more (not including airplane ticket to Taiwan.).

Checking into TIGP Dorm

The dorm manager Miss Fiona will inform you all necessary information. Please follow the instruction.

Completing Nano Program Registration

After moving into TIGP dorm, please come the program office at P408, Institute of Physics (MAP). We will assist you to complete the necessary forms for applying Academia Sinica ID card, ARC, Post Office account, etc. You will also get documents for university registration.

Completing the university registration

  • New Student Enrollment System:
Students need to fill in their personal information on-line before they register at the university.
  • On the reigstration day:

For NTU students, the registration on campus is on September 4 (Thursday);
For NTHU students, on September 12 (Friday).

You will get your student ID card after registration. Prepare the followings on the registration day:

  • Passport
  • ARC (if any)
  • Verified MS diploma and one copy (A4)
  • Verified transcript and one copy (A4)
  • Some passport-size photos
  • Receipt of tuition payment notice
  • Registration Form
  • Health examination report ¡V NTU students
  • NT$2,000 (the premium of health insurance, 4 months) ¡V NTHU students*
  • NT$630 (health exam) ¡V NTHU students

*On the registration day, the NTHU foreign students have to pay the premium of health insurance (NT$2,000/4 months) to NTHU Division of Foreign Student Affairs, except students who have bought a 4-month health insurance policy in their own country and the policy has been verified, or have lived in Taiwan for more than 4 months and already enrolled in NHI (National Heath Insurance).

Students who fail to do so will not get their student ID card, and it may result that they can not apply for their ARC and open a bank account.
